By the time 'The Real Music Revival' was formed in 2009, René had gained much experience working with a group of musicians in his previous band, as well as being equally adept at performing in a trio, a duo or as a soloist. He was a very versatile performer, and enjoyed entertaining audiences at a variety of venues - and on many different occasions. These might be anything from weddings or birthday parties, to festivals - and he was equally happy in a café, a restaurant, or up on a large stage. He often played solo - just his voice and acoustic guitar - to a handful of people at a private party, but also many times with the full band to a few hundred people in a large theatre or town square.

His set-lists usually included titles from the 60s (and occasionally some earlier numbers) through to the popular hits of the day. Apart from those, he always incorporated a number of his own compositions.

Although René played popular cover songs of his favourite singer/songwriters, including John Denver, James Taylor, Jim Croce and Eric Clapton, he devoted time every day to extending his own repertoire, which eventually comprised hundreds of songs.

For those wishing to book René for an event, there was a variety of ways in which this could be done:
Solo acoustic - just René with his guitar
Duo, with Thomas Manetti
Trio, with Thomas Manetti and Magic Freddy
Full band - 'The Real Music Revival'.

Solo, duo or trio performances were generally more suited to the smaller venues, where perhaps a greater atmosphere of intimacy was appreciated.
