'The Real Music Revival' was formed in 2009, some time after the break-up of René's former band, 'Nickels & Dimes'. As is often the case in the music world, over time, individuals develop in different ways and, as a result, wish to take new directions. So it was with René - and the new band was possibly a consequence of this.

The members of The Real Music Revival were René Wingelaar, Thomas Manetti, Magic Freddy, Peter Doest and Daniël van de Molen, and each has his own individual page giving further details.

As the band's name suggested, they wanted to play 'real music'. And they did just that. As a result it also became apparent that the band was able to offer a wide variety of musical possibilities, and they were justifiably proud of that. The band's members really enjoyed playing at an assortment of events and in many different venues - be it small bars or large theatres, where, of course, they could really 'go to town'!

The band's favourite music was Americana, so a set-list was likely to include songs by John Denver, James Taylor, Neil Young, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruce Springsteen and the Eagles, for example. In addition there would be some rock 'n' roll numbers, plus various popular songs of the time often heard on the radio. They played and sang all their songs from memory, and they each had the great ability to improvise.

With René at the helm, the band gained a reputation for playing with great passion and enthusiasm. By listening to the 'Discover' CD - recorded in July 2010 - it is possible to get a flavour of their music.

These are just some of the gigs they played:

  • In Barneveld, on 28th November, 2009.

  • In Barneveld, on 17th April, 2010, with the pop choir, 'Luidkeels'.

  • The Queen's Day Concert at Oudewater, on 30th April, 2010.

  • Two concerts at Voorthuizen, one on 13th July, 2011 - and the other on 24th August 2012.

  • At Amersfoort, on 14th November, 2011.
